What hurts, when it started, what set it off and what you have already tried. Bring any imaging or notes from another doctor, however old they are.

His dedication puts him at the forefront of this specialty, providing skilled solutions for nearly every condition of the upper extremities.

Expert Hand Surgeon in Southlake, TX

At The Hand and Wrist Institute, we can help you get the right diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan to protect or restore your hand and wrist strength and range of motion. We specialize in conservative treatments but offer a wide range of expert surgeries as well when non-surgical options don’t work. Come to us for a full evaluation and treatment plan.

Comprehensive Hand and Wrist Treatment

Our integrated approach includes everything from your initial consultation to pain management and rehabilitation. We commonly start with conservative care using a non-surgical approach. We may proceed to surgical options if these initial treatments don’t improve your condition. Dr. Knight excels in advanced wrist arthroscopic procedures that take a minimally invasive approach.

Non-Surgical Treatments

Non-surgical treatments are the first option for many hand and wrist conditions. Proper immobilization followed by carefully managed rehabilitation can offer a full recovery for numerous injuries and ailments. We won’t suggest complex procedures unless they’re necessary. Our team will work closely with you throughout the recovery process to assist with pain management so you can comfortably work to restore strength and range of motion in the affected area.

Surgical Treatments

In some cases, surgical treatment is the best course of action for prompt symptom relief and a full recovery. Dr. Knight excels at complex hand and wrist procedures. He’s an expert with many advanced techniques, including stitchless endoscopic carpal tunnel release. Dr. Knight was one of the first surgeons in the nation to implant the internal computerized Free Hand System that helps restore hand function for quadriplegic patients.

We’re passionate about care. When you come to the Hand and Wrist Institute, hands and wrists are what we work on all day.

Hand and Wrist Conditions We Treat

Hand Conditions

The hand is an intricate construction with 27 joints, 27 bones, and more than 100 ligaments and tendons. Dr. Knight was drawn to this specialty due to the intricate nature of the work. We have extensive experience providing both surgical and non-surgical solutions for:

These can indicate nerve damage that should be addressed immediately. Don’t wait to contact The Hand and Wrist Institute for a prompt appointment.

Wrist Conditions

Your wrist provides the essential range of motion that allows you to drive, write, cook, and perform many functions of daily life. Athletes and manual workers have an especially high risk of wrist pain and injuries. If you can’t comfortably or effectively use your wrist, it’s important to see a health care professional.

Some of the wrist conditions that we commonly treat include:

The wrist is constantly working to help you perform everyday functions at work, at play, and at home. Overuse and trauma injuries are common. Our Southlake office is well-equipped with on-site imaging equipment so we can properly evaluate your condition the day of your appointment. After an examination and review of your images, Dr. Knight will recommend a treatment plan. What do patients ask us before they come in?

Do you take X-rays in the office?

Yes, at both offices. X-rays are taken when they are needed and you look at them with Dr. Knight the same visit. If you need an MRI or other advanced imaging, it is done at an imaging facility a few blocks from the Southlake office and the results come back to Dr. Knight.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Your photo ID, your insurance card, a list of the medicines you take, and any X-rays, scans or notes from another doctor about this hand or wrist. Older imaging is still worth bringing, so bring the scan from five years ago if it is of this hand. If the injury happened at work, bring the claim number and your employer’s contact.

Do I need a referral?

Most patients book with us directly. Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care doctor before they will cover a specialist visit, so it is worth checking your plan. Call (817) 382-6789 and we will help you work out what your plan needs.

What insurance do you take?

We take most major plans, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare, Medicare and Medicare Advantage, Tricare and workers’ compensation. Plans change, so call (817) 382-6789 with your card and we will verify your benefits before your visit.

Where is surgery done?

Surgery is done at Legent Hospital in Plano. The appointments before and after an operation are at whichever of our offices suits you.

How soon can I be seen?

Same day appointments are often available at both offices. Call (817) 382-6789 and we will tell you the first opening in Southlake and Plano, or book yourself online.

How do you want to book?

You do not need a diagnosis to book. Bring us the hand, and getting the diagnosis right is the part we do.

Book your own time online

Pick a time on Dr. Knight's schedule and confirm it yourself, any time of day, 7 days a week. This is how we prefer patients to book.
