Who we are

The Hand and Wrist Institute is the practice of John T. Knight, MD, an orthopedic surgeon who treats conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow.

What we treat

We treat the hand, the wrist and the elbow, and nothing else. Carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, ganglion cysts, Dupuytren’s contracture, thumb and finger arthritis, wrist and hand fractures, torn wrist ligaments, cartilage tears of the wrist, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are the conditions we see most often.

How many surgeons

One. There is no second physician at either office, so the person you book with is the person who examines you and the person who operates.

Training

Dr. Knight is fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Joseph H. Boyes Hand Fellowship.

Board certification

Where we are

Offices open today

Two: Southlake, open on weekdays, and Dallas, open on Tuesdays. Online booking is open any time, 7 days a week.

Plano

Our Plano office opens on Tuesday 29 September at 4090 Mapleshade Ln Ste 100, Plano, TX 75093, and the Dallas office moves into it. It is open on Tuesdays and X-rays are taken on site. The opening and closing times are not set yet, so they are not published here. Call us for the hours and we will tell you where Dr. Knight is seeing patients this week.

What happens on site

X-rays

X-rays are available in both offices when needed, and you review them with Dr. Knight in the same visit.

MRI and advanced imaging

Done at an imaging facility a few blocks from our Southlake office, and the results come back to Dr. Knight.

Nerve testing

Not performed on site. Where the diagnosis is not clear from the exam, Dr. Knight arranges nerve testing and tells you where it is done.

Surgery

Surgery is performed at Legent Surgical Hospital Plano, 4100 Mapleshade Ln, Plano, TX 75093. That is a hospital and it is not one of our offices. Some directory listings name a different Legent facility in Carrollton; that is not where Dr. Knight operates.

Same day appointments are often available at both offices. Call (817) 382-6789 and we will tell you the first opening in Southlake and in Dallas, or book yourself online.

Out of state

For patients outside Texas, we offer virtual consultations.

Workers’ compensation

We handle workers’ compensation cases and work with the employer and the insurance carrier.
