How we write and review this site

Who writes these pages?

Our practice writes them, for patients. They are written in plain language, in the words patients use with us, and they are not written for search engines. Where a page carries a question as its heading, that is a question we are actually asked.

The practice has one surgeon, John T. Knight, MD. Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in orthopaedic surgery (1995) and surgery of the hand (1996), verified through ABMS Certification Matters. He is fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Joseph H. Boyes Hand Fellowship, and has over 25 years in practice.

Who reviews them, and how do you know?

John T. Knight, MD reviews the clinical content. When he has reviewed a page, the page shows the date he reviewed it, both in the byline you can read and in the structured data a search engine reads. The two always agree, because they come from the same field.

When he has not reviewed a page yet, the byline says the page was prepared for review, and no review date is published anywhere on it. We would rather tell you a page is waiting for review than let you assume it has had one.

How are Dr. Knight's own words handled?

Where a page quotes him, the quote comes from a recording, and the page links to the video page carrying the full transcript so you can read the sentence in context.

Every transcript on this site began as a machine caption track, and machine captions mangle anatomy. Before a quote is published, it is checked against the caption file, and then a person listens to the audio and corrects it. A quote that has not had the listen-back does not appear on a published page.

How are sources cited?

A statistic or a clinical claim that is not Dr. Knight's own carries a named source, listed at the foot of the page it appears on, with the publisher and the address. We cite named medical authorities rather than other practices.

We do not publish a number we cannot source. If a figure has no source we can point at, it does not go on the page, and the gap stays a gap.

What do we not publish?

• No success rate and no recurrence rate.
• No procedure count.
• One experience figure, over 25 years, which is the figure the practice has published about itself. Older pages carry other figures and those are being corrected to this one.
• No superlative, and no ranking or "best" claim.
• No price, no insurance carrier list and no referral policy until we can state each one exactly. What we do publish about cost is your right to a written estimate.
• No address for an office until that address is confirmed.
• Nothing on this site diagnoses anyone.

These are not aspirations. The build that produces this site refuses to publish if a page breaks them, and the canonical list of what we do and do not say is on our facts page.

How are pages kept current?

Each page shows the date it was last updated. When we correct a page, we update that date. When Dr. Knight reviews it, the review date updates too, and the two are separate on purpose: a typographical fix is not a medical review.

How do we correct something?

If you find something on this site that is wrong, out of date or unclear, call (817) 382-6789 or tell us through our contact page. Tell us the page and what is wrong with it.

We correct the page rather than quietly deleting it, and the updated date changes so you can see that it moved. Where a correction changes what a page claims, we say what changed on the page itself.

Third-party directory profiles are a separate matter and we do not control them. Where a profile elsewhere disagrees with this site, this site and our facts page are correct, and the facts page carries the identifiers a directory should reconcile to.
