When I broke my wrist a week before a big tour, I went straight to Dr. Knight. He not only made me feel comfortable, but also created a day-to-day recovery schedule for me while I was on the road. Didn’t matter time of day, or if I was just getting off stage at the Ryman in Nashville, or warming up before Radio City in NYC, Dr. Knight and his staff were always quick to respond and provide advice with a personal touch.

About five years ago, in the middle of filming the last episode of our final season of a show called Greek, I broke my hand. Specifically, I had fractured three of my metacarpals on my right side. I had never broken any bones before, so I went to the emergency room that night. They took a few x-rays, wrapped me up in a temporary cast, and sent me home telling me to contact a specialist as soon as I could.

Showing up for work with your broken dominant hand in a cast may make for an interesting story at some jobs, but working as an actor on a TV show is not one of those jobs. We have to worry about continuity; if a character appears in a cast in one scene, and then is magically out of the cast in another, it’s very confusing. Luckily, the writers were able to work it into the storyline and immortalize my broken bones on TV for the world to see.

However, after the show was over, it was a different story. It was up to me to write my recovery process. After doing a little research and a couple of consultations, I realized that this could be pretty serious. This was my dominant hand. Anything less than about 100% recovery would be majorly impactful. I write with that hand. I play guitar with that hand. I needed to do everything I could to ensure I received the absolute best care available. Dr. John Knight is exactly that.

I had taken consultations with maybe two other doctors before I met Dr. Knight. They told me that depending on my level of commitment to physical therapy, I could be looking at a hopeful 80%-90% recovered dexterity, and since there had also been damage to the nerves in my hand, I may need to wear a thumb brace for years.

I couldn’t believe that was true. So I did as much research as I could to find a specialist with the best reputation. Just about everyone I trusted pointed me to Dr. Knight, and with everything I found online, his reputation proved to be the best. When you have your first consultation, you can tell right away. He is easy to talk to, fluent in all the aspects of his field, and could guarantee a complete recovery. We scheduled surgery for that week.

He helped set me up with a physical therapist in my area and the recovery process flew by. He and his staff are so available and knowledgeable throughout the whole process that if you have any questions or concerns they’re just a phone call away. I can honestly say that I have recovered 100% thanks to his work. In fact, I wish I could hand-write this letter to demonstrate my acute dexterity, but he couldn’t fix my handwriting!

It’s been five years now and I am so grateful to have found Dr. John Knight.

As a children’s book illustrator, my right hand is my livelihood. When it started to freeze up on me, I was frantic. Although I live in Orange County, California, I would have traveled anywhere in the world to find the best surgeon. Luckily, Dr. Knight was just up the road in Los Angeles and has office hours in OC weekly. Everyone from Evelyn, to the nurses in the surgery center, to the entire office staff, were not just top notch but delightful, caring and human — so unusual, I’ve found, in a busy medical practice! Dr. Knight is a gem in every way, and my surgery was exactly as described and expected. He gave me the time and assurance I needed, as well as giving me my hand back. There is no better gift, and I sing his praises to all who will listen!

I am an athlete and injured my pitching arm. I was treated by other doctors through my college and the doctor’s were unable to resolve my injury. My mother recommended I see Dr. Knight and with just one visit, Dr. Knight was able to identify the problem and recommended surgery which I subsequently underwent. The surgery and recovery were very successful and I was out on the mound the next season, pitching better than ever. My arm is better now than before my injury and I owe it all to Dr. Knight. His bedside manner was the thing I was first impressed with. I appreciate the time he took to explain everything before and after the surgery to keep me at ease. He genuinely cares about his patients as evident by the follow up visits and time spent with me. I can’t thank Dr. Knight enough for all he has done for me. His staff is very professional, attentive, friendly and share the same genuine concern for his patients.

Any time another athlete tells me about any arm problems the first thing I do is tell them about Dr. Knight as I believe they will have a successful outcome like I had.

I looked for the best hand surgeon. I read about Dr. Knight and his removing the man’s big toe and transplanting it onto his thumb and I was like that guy has to be pretty good. I had a trigger thumb and that was a breeze. I walked out with barely a bandage, no stitches. There was no recovery time. It was great.

For a surgeon, Dr. Knight has a great personality. Usually surgeons don’t want to talk to you; he is funny, great personality, and a good bedside manner, and I would highly recommend him to everyone. The overall experience was wonderful and follow up was great. I would recommend Dr. Knight to everyone.

As a holder of multiple world records by jumping what are said to be some of the most spectacular motorcycle jumps to have ever been accomplished, I have been tagged as the modern day Evel Knievel, together with xgames and xfighters medals and as an experienced “A grade” motocross and supercross rider its fair to say I have had my fair share of injuries over the years.

I have broken more bones than I would like to share, the true testament to the longevity of my career is working with the most elite doctors in the world.

One injury I had to my right wrist is deemed to be a “career ending injury” for an athlete, when breaking the capitate bone most doctors fuse the wrist as a surgery to this bone is usually too intricate to be successfully executed by most orthopedic surgeons.

Dr John Knight not only performed a successful internal fixation on the capitate bone of my wrist but he also had me back riding in record time from an injury of this nature. Where most riders would have to relearn to ride with a disability or be forced into early retirement, I was able to return to the highest level of freestyle motocross competition and go onto setting a new world record in long distance motorcycle jumping. My career is still thriving, and my right wrist is 100%. Thank you for the best hand surgery experience Dr. Knight.

“..discovered the problem and recommended a surgeon. There was a tiny, broken bone in my wrist that needed to be repaired before we continued with the play. Tallulah could not drop her glass at the wrong moment.
I was scheduled for surgery in Los Angeles with Dr. John Knight, a genius hand and wrist specialist, but I needed a routine chest X-ray before going under the knife. Tony and I were in New York for Jane Fonda’s Broadway opening of 33 Variations, so my doctor told me to have the X-ray done on the East Coast so that I would be ready for surgery when I returned home.
I went over to Roosevelt Hospital to take care of the X-ray and asked the radiologists to send it directly to my longtime physician, Dr. Aman Hekmati, in Los Angeles, as I was late for lunch with my good friend Nicole. I hustled down the street to Joe Allen and thought nothing more of my brief trip to the hospital.”

Dr. Knight’s treatment plan has been extremely effective in the improvement of the injuries I received to both of my wrists. I also appreciate that he takes the time to explain each step of treatment to me, and he is very knowledgeable in his field. Thanks to his insight and the great service provided by his office, I can go back to doing what I do best, professional boxing. In addition to Dr. Knight, his staff is very friendly and always accommodating to my busy competition schedule. If I had to rate them, I’d give them a 10/10. His office obviously values my time as much as I do, and they keep the wait time to a minimum, allowing me to spend as much time with the doctor as necessary.

You were kind to see my daughter Ana Lorena (early July 2010) literally upon our arrival from Mexico after her car accident. Ana Lorena, an internationally ranked junior tennis player was diagnosed in Guadalajara, Mexico to require wrist operation to fix a broken tendon.

We would like to manifest our deepest appreciation for the outstanding care that Ana Lorena received. We are very grateful to you for your professionalism, enthusiasm and patience (my wife and I will never forget the time and the effort to listen to my attempted translation of the Spanish MRI interpretation). Thanks for taking the time to hear our concerns, provide us with educated explanations and advising us on the appropriate steps to follow in order to determine if the operation was needed or not.

The MRI that you recommended indicated no injury to the tendons or ligaments and thus you recommended not to operate.

Ana Lorena proceeded to train and compete during the summer (started year 2010 ranked 1,958 in the International Tennis Federation and finished the year at number 635) and was able to enroll in the Evert tennis academy in August 2010 where she I currently are training until the end of June 2011. As of today, she has not felt any pain and is going through her life and tennis training as if nothing ever happened.

When I met Dr. Knight my right hand & arm were in constant pain and had little mobility. After a year of visiting other doctors I had started to lose hope. After Dr. Knight’s treatment, I not only have full mobility, I am pain free. Every day it gets better and better. I owe it all to Dr. Knight’s sure hand and surgical brilliance. I wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend him.

As a professional boxer, I have to spend countless hours hitting speed bags, heavy bags, and mitts and not to mention, the countless hours of sparring I need to go through in order to train for competition. When I injured my wrist, it was very difficult for me to know that I couldn’t train or compete. I consulted three other doctors and received minimal results and continued to suffer from intense pain. I was very fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Knight. He performed my surgery and got me back to boxing almost immediately. He and his staff were incredibly thorough and efficient in handling my injury from start to finish. Not only were he and his staff skilled and knowledgeable, they were also very kind and understanding of the situation I was in. and provided an ideal environment for me to take care of my wrist. Since my surgery, I’ve already competed in two boxing events and have won both of them.

Thanks for bringing me back Dr. Knight!!

Thank you Dr. Knight for the outstanding care we received for our 8 year old son. Our son was a level 5 gymnast, who was ranked #4 in the western region United States, for the year 2008. We had consulted with many doctors before seeing you, regarding a benign bone tumor attached to his forearm. You were the one who heard our concerns, educated us, and accepted the challenge of removing the tumor. Not only did you take the challenge to remove the tumor, but you were enthusiastic and excited to do so. We are very grateful for you and your team. We felt we were as important as your professional athlete patients. From beginning to end, the whole surgery process was first class. The surgery was a great success. After taking four months off from any workouts to heal, our son went back to training and was ready to competenine months from the actual surgery date. He not only jumped up a level to Level 6, but he succeeded in placing 3rd overall at the 2009 California West Coast Team Challenge. Our son now has a promising future in the sport of gymnastics thanks to you, Dr. Knight!

Because of sports injuries and rotating my wrist in surgery I was having difficulty with full range of motion that could have been career-threatening. Being well versed with all surgeons in the area I selected Dr. Knight because of his skill and expertise in the field of hand and upper extremity surgery. He performed an outpatient arthroscopic procedure on my wrist and I was back working within days and haven’t missed a day since.

I am a satisfied patient of Dr. John Knight. The surgery he performed on my wrist enabled me to be back to work at full capacity in the time frame he predicted. I followed his instructions and had a complete recovery from, at the time, a scary injury. I’m a musician; hence, my hands are my most important tools of my trade. The staff was both efficient and confidence instilling. I would, and have, recommended his services and skills to my colleagues.
