hello I'm dr. John Knight today I want to talk to you about finding the right hand surgeon first I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself I'm a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a specialty training in surgery of the hand and upper extremity the passion for

me is hand and wrist disorders we're have over 20 years of experience in this practice of this specialty I originally started practice in Louisiana where I'm from and then read about eight years relocated to the Los Angeles area where I created the Hand and Wrist Institute

in Beverly Hills which has become one of the premier hand programs in the United States now the peak of my career I feel a calling to return to my roots in the south close to my family and I'm now in the process of relocating my practice and program today to the Dallas Fort

Worth area it's important though what to my success and has been important to my success is to educate the public whether those patients or consumers can come see me at the end of the day doesn't matter it's educating the population on hand and upper extremity disorders and that's

why we created one of the top premier websites called the Hand and Wrist Institute dot com this website is interactive it goes into testimonials it goes in the various most of the conditions and treatment and upper extremity conditions and disorders one of the keys of the website however

is a very unique part called where does it hurt this is an interactive site where you can go in and put left or right consumptives depending on what arm is affected and you tech it this tabulates all the symptoms and you hit a submit button and it gives you a

potential list of diagnoses we're not here to treat you through the internet we're just here to give you more information so what does all this mean well at the end of the day if you have a problem you're going to need to see a hand surgeon so what are the what are

the important points or when you're looking for a hand surgeon well this kind of breaks it down number one is experience I have over 20 years of experience but the key is is looking at for example a young person a young doctor just out of his

training may have the latest technology under his belt but he may not have the judgment or wisdom of an older surgeon on the other hand you may have an older surgeon close to retirement that hasn't really advanced their technology and their light and be and they're not up on

the latest techniques secondly online reviews well we're obviously big on the internet so online reviews are very important to us but it's important when you're looking up a doctor to see do they have reviews and of these reviews are most of the reviews based on the

doctor interaction with the patient or is it just that a pay person had a problem with one of the staff members all this is important to look at but it's important for example if there's a surgical procedure what was the patient saying about that

outcome very important bedside manner bedside manner is very important in that it's held the doctor communicates and gains trust in that patient did they answer all of your questions at that office visitor that they just were they preoccupied with something else their

watch or their cell phone and not even listening to all of your concerns so bedside manner is important all these are in the totality are very important and finally office efficiency I have a very efficient office staff and that to me has been a big part of my success

that said there are many doctors that are great surgeons but they have very inefficient staff the staff has poor communication skills and nobody and patients leave the doctor based on that alone so in the totality of all of these four bullet points it's important to

look at all of these and there may be many others to look at also but I think these are the key points so I hope this has been helpful to you and good luck in finding a hand surgeon and if there's more information you want about my practice and what I do please visit the
